Omaha Hi Lo Warnings
Omaha Hi Lo can be one of the
most complicated poker games you could play.
Whether you are playing online or you are
playing live, there are a lot of things you need
to think about and understand about the game. It
will not take you long after jumping into the
game, to figure out how many things that you
will be happy you were warned about. Every time
someone plays Omaha Hi Lo for the first time,
they usually lose a lot of money because they
were never warned.
Fast Pace Speed
This is perhaps the biggest
problem for a lot of new players. The game is so
fast paced, that it can be very hard to deal
with. You will be forced to make decisions very
quickly with a lot of different things going on
at the same time. Very quickly you will have to
look at your hand and evaluate what you have.
Even that takes some time. Add in the fact that
you also have to try to think about what your
opponents have and you will quickly get
overwhelmed.
Especially if you are playing
Omaha Hi Lo online; things can get very intense.
It will just take a lot of focus and discipline.
If you can manage to do that, then you will be
able to get used to everything in no time at
all. Some people just cannot focus enough to
ever get the game. You cannot afford to make
stupid mistakes because the speed is too intense
for you. There have been players that have
folded the nuts because they didn’t realize what
they had. That is exactly what happens when you
are not focused.
Counterfeited Hands
The other thing you really need
to look out for is counterfeits. When you are
looking for a low hand, it is very common to get
counterfeited.
Example:
Your hand = A 2 8 10
Flop = 8 5 3
At this point in the hand you
have the lowest possible hand with A2. You may
be quick to think you are golden, but that is
not always the case. On the turn and river is
where the counterfeit happens.
Turn = 5
River = A
Board = 8 5 3 5 A
Now, at this point you just got
counterfeited. Your low hand just turned into no
hand. The lowest possible hand now would be the
player holding 24. You Ace two just got
completely dominated by a hand that actually is
not near as good as yours. This will happen a
lot and there is nothing you can really do about
it. What you do need to do though, is be aware
when you get counterfeited.
The Value of a Hand
Another thing to be aware of
would be the value of your hands. In Omaha Hi Lo
the values of your hands go down quite a bit.
For example; a top pair is pretty much worthless
in Omaha Hi Lo, while in Texas Holdem, that is
considered a semi-strong hand. It is not
uncommon to see an all-in with top pair in Texas
Holdem. If there is a straight possibility,
flush possibility or any other possibility; you
can be sure that someone else has the cards to
complete that hand.
These are just a few warnings
that you should watch out for when you play
Omaha Hi Lo. You do not want to dive into the
game without knowing these warnings. It will
help you avoid making a lot of mistakes and save
you a lot of money when you start playing the
game. |
