Texas Holdem Poker Home Games
If you are looking to organize a home based game of Texas Holdem Poker I would
recommend that you have at least 9 or 10 player’s total. Of course, you can also
play with less if you prefer.
Having players that are better than you is fine. It gives
you an opportunity to pick up on some of their strategy. Playing with players
that are way above your level however may scare off some others.
The next decision you will need to make is on what type of table you will use.
Playing on a nice felt Texas Holdem Poker table is ideal. The feel it gives you
and how it makes your players think about the game will help keep them coming
back for more. Of course, you can always throw a tablecloth over a suitably
sized table.

Needless to say, you will also need a set of cards. Look to get a quality set
that will withstand all the shuffling and handling that they will take. A backup
set is also a good idea. Get a different color so that you never accidentally
mix them up.
If you are going to host a game of Texas Holdem then you will need a set of
chips. A nice set of chips will impress your guests and keep them coming back.
Clay chips are the best and some of the composite chips are really nice as well.
Once you have the equipment the rest is up to you.
Decide on Limit Holdem, No Limit Holdem or Pot Limit Holdem. I like to have a
buy-in so that everyone starts out with the same number of chips. You can set
that to whatever amount you like, $50, $100 etc…
Then just set out the denominations for each chip.
Your next step will be to determine the betting structure. For example you can
set the betting structure in your Texas Holdem Poker home game to $2/$4 or
$5/10. It’s up to you. For review, in a $2/$4 game, the small blind would be $1
and the big blind would be $2. Bets before and on the flop are $2. Bets on the
turn and river are $4.
